A second year college student lost his life due to the alleged firing by police during a late night quarrel over snatching of a mobile phone on Sunday night. According to details, the victim Abrar had reportedly posted an ad on a website for selling his mobile phone. A customer, later identified as Dilnawaz, came to meet Abrar at Sindh Muslim Society late on Sunday night and later snatched Abrar's android mobile and tried to flee in his car.
"The man [Dilnawaz] was in his car, he snatched the mobile from Abrar and sped away without making payment. On seeing this Abrar clung on to the fleeing car of Dilnawaz in a bid to stop him, but then a police patrol on seeing this opened fire on the car. The bullets fired hit Abrar and he died on the spot," eyewitnesses and heirs of the deceased said.
However, the SHO of the concerned police station denied the firing incident said the incident is being probed, while adding that a statement of accused Dilnawaz has been recorded. Furthermore, there was no clue to the police patrol van that opened fire on the car. However, police initial police investigations revealed that Dilnawaz's vehicle bore a fake number plate and that he had a previous criminal record. Further investigations are underway.
