Secretary General of United Business Group (UBG) Zubair F. Tufail has suggested to the authorities to hand over Karachi Water and Sewerage Board's (KWSB) water distribution system to Rangers.
He said that KWSB had failed to provide water and said there was a need to manage the administrative affairs of the water distribution system effectively.
He expressed the hope that Rangers will stop water theft and streamline water supply in the city to meet the demand of residential and industrial areas of the city.
Zubair F. Tufail expressed fear that if water supply was not improved industrial units will go out of production in coming days.
He said it was very strange that there wasn't enough water to be supplied in the pipelines but the tanker mafia had no problem in selling copious amounts of water across the city.
He said that industrial production was badly affected due to the suspension or intermittent water supply by the KWSB.
Tufail further added that export-oriented textile units were suffering massively as they could not be able to meet their production target and may lose export orders.
He said that delay and politics on construction of water reservoirs increasing water and energy crises.
He said that the country needed water as well as energy for industrial and agricultural development and construction of water reservoirs will meet this requirement.
He said that construction of water reservoirs would increase water storage capacity to save water that goes waste into the sea.
He said that the country has the capacity to store only 8 to 9 percent water whereas around 150 million acre feet water goes into sea every year for which country need dams to be constructed to save it .
UBG spokesman Gulzar Feeroz said that residents of Defense and other parts of the city were affected due to acute shortage of water on daily basis for the last many months.
He said industrial zones were now facing perpetual drought and foreign exchange earning industries including textile and leather industry have been threatened.
