A Bone Marrow Transplant Centre is to be opened at the Children Hospital in Lahore at a cost of Rs 237 million to help children suffering from blood diseases.
"The centre is expected to start next month and the chief minister will inaugurate it," Health Advisor Khawaja Salman Rafiq confirmed on Tuesday at a meeting he chaired to review steps to complete the centre.While briefing the meeting, Children Hospital's Professor Ahsan Rathore said training the centre's doctors and nurses had already been completed at the Institute of Blood Diseases in Karachi. He also talked about the completion of the minor civil work in the next two weeks. "The installation of bio-medical equipment has already started, too," he added.
The centre's Project Director and Professor of the Haematology Blood Diseases Centre in Karachi, Doctor Tahir Shamsi, said a score of transplant procedures would be carried out every year and later even more.
