The Afghan belligerence

18 Jul, 2016

Pakistan seems to have been paying the price of hosting millions of Afghans on its soil for several decades. A belligerent and hostile Afghan government in relation to Pakistan is a strong case in point. The Foreign Office has therefore rightly underscored the need for closer cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan rather than constant blame game by the Afghan government based on inaccurate assumptions.
How unfortunate it is that in a statement Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at a recent Nato Summit blamed Pakistan for his country's woes. It is quite unfortunate that Afghan leaders continue to make hostile statements against Pakistan and blame it for all failures in Afghanistan. Unlike Hamid Karzai, Ashraf Ghani knows too well that Pakistan has a genuine interest in peace in Afghanistan and it would continue to make every effort to help bring peace in the country. He also knows that Pakistan expects greater cooperation of the Afghan government in its fight against terrorism through effective border management.
