More monsoon rains forecast

The Met Office on Monday forecast more monsoon rains in the next three days from Tuesday through July 28 at a number of places across the country. It said that rain with thunderstorm and isolated heavy falls were expected at a number of places in Islamabad, Punjab, Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir till to Thursday. Rain and thunderstorm were also likely at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and Eastern parts of Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad and Kalat divisions over the period.
It warned that the expected heavy downpours were feared to unleash flash flooding and landslides in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. It said that rain may cause glacier melt in vulnerable areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, asking the authorities concerned and local communities to remain alert during the period, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Seasonal low lies over north-Balochistan and its adjoining area with its trough extending north eastward. Monsoon currents are also penetrating upper parts of the country. A fresh westerly wave is also likely to enter upper parts of the country on Tuesday and may persist 2 to 3 days," it said.
Weather in the next 24 hours: The Met said that rain-thunderstorm was expected at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat and Zhob divisions, Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir. It alerted the citizens to the possible landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. It said that drizzle was also expected along Sindh-Makran coast and forecast hot and humid weather elsewhere in the country.
Weather in the next 48 hours: Rain-thunderstorm is expected with isolated heavy falls at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Malakand, Peshawar, Hazara, Mardan and Kohat divisions, besides Islamabad, FATA and Kashmir and at isolated places in Zhob division. There are also chances of landslides in Malakand and Hazara divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Drizzle is expected along Sindh-Makran coast and hot and humid weather elsewhere in the country.
Temperature in the last 24 hours: Dalbandin and Nokkundi were the hottest places in the country with 45 degree Celsius, each, Dadu and Chillas 43, each, and Bhakkar, Rahim Yar Khan, Rohri and Sukkur 42, each.
Rain in the last 24 hours: Punjab received maximum rainfall in Jhelum 17mm, Muree 10 mm. Islamabad: Saidpur 8mm, Mangla 6mm, Zero Point 5mm, Parachinar 7mm and Balochistan: Quetta and Sheikh Manda 5mm.
