NAB scores 77.7 percent conviction rate in first half

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has scored 77.7 percent conviction rate in trial court with 35 convictions during first half of ongoing year. According to a senior NAB official, NAB's Prosecutor General Accountability (PGA) Waqas Qadeer Dar said this at a meeting held to review performance of Prosecution Division of the bureau.
The meeting was presided over by NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry. The meeting was told that the anti-graft body has scored 77.7 percent conviction rate in trial court with 35 convictions and 10 acquittals during the first half of 2016. Dar told the committee that last year during the same period, the conviction rate was 36.8 percent. This year's percentage is much higher than the last six years statistics, he said, adding that there is also significant increase in number of convictions which came in 35 cases (152.1 percent more) against average of 26 convictions during last six preceding years, said the official.
Waqas Qadeer Dar while presenting the performance analysis of Prosecution Division told the meeting that trial ratio at Accountability Court is 76 percent, appeals ratio at Accountability Court is 76 percent, writ petitions ratio at High Court is 75 percent, constitutional petition ratio at the Apex Court is 69 percent and appeals ratio at the Supreme Court of Pakistan is 66.6 percent during second quarter of 2016.
