28 Jul, 2016

The special manager of the Customer Care and Safety Atlas Honda and registered motorbike dealers of Honda met Special Monitoring Unit Senior Member Salman Sufi and Secretary of the Excise and Taxation Ahmed Bilal for joining the Dealer Vehicle Registration System on Thursday as they praised the system and assured their full cooperation. The dealers said the system would save money and time of their customers.
Senior Member Sufi also briefed the participants on the legislation which will impose penalty on fabricating licence plates in the Punjab and the participants on the legislation through which the plates would now belong to owner so that every resale of a licence plate would trigger issuance of a new licence plate.
Sources say the Punjab government is launching the Dealer Vehicle Registration System in Lahore, pouncing on agent mafia and the fake number plates rackets from August this year. The system is a major component of the Motor Transport Reforms prepared by the chief minister's Special Monitoring Unit (Law and Order), and it included Intelligent Traffic System and computerised number plates.
The sources say the purpose is to bring down number of unregistered vehicles on roads to zero and provide law enforcement agencies with access to relevant and timely data in real-time, also making the functioning of the excise and taxation department smooth.
After the introduction of the system, the Punjab will become the first province to curb unregistered vehicles as well as fake plates systematically. In Lahore, the dealers had already obtained licensees and were being imparted training on the software.
Officials said the chief minister had also ordered for launching the Intelligent Transportation System in Lahore to complement the Dealer Vehicle Registration System and achieve the aims of ending criminal and terrorist activities from Punjab by identifying fake number plates. ITS will also provide further diverse traffic services that include e-chalaning, software controlled traffic lights, green wave control and traffic guidance system.
The Dealer Vehicle Registration System is part of transport facilitation program of SMU under which, registration and purchase of license plates will be completed under one roof. This process will be completed with the help of the PITB software and dealers will be able to complete offline registration of vehicle and give license plate and purchase receipt to the buyer on the spot. This system will save taxpayers from a complicated procedure and exploitation by non-registered agents. Under the law, non-registered vehicles cannot ply on roads and this system will ensure implementation of the law.
