No new IMF programme under consideration: Wathra

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Ashraf Mehmood Wathra Saturday said no new International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme is under consideration. Talking to newsmen during a press conference at SBP head office, Wathra said Pakistan has successfully completed another programme (Extended Fund Facility) with the IMF and so far there is no plan to approach the Fund for a new programme. He said 12th IMF Review under the EFF will be held next week in Dubai and post-programme reviews will continue even after the programme.
The Governor SBP said there is need for diversifying exports to earn more foreign exchange for the country. The SBP has kept export refinance rate at 3 percent to facilitate the exports, he added. He said the government is taking some new initiatives to increase the tax base and some new measures for real estate sector are part of these efforts.
