Pemra chief visits offices of TV channels

The chief of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Absar Alam, has said that no one would be allowed to suppress or obstruct freedom of the press and expression. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said Pemra is endeavouring to make sure that all the television channels and cable operators abide by a code of conduct.
He said that on Monday he visited the offices of television channels and cable operators in Karachi and listened to their problems. The Pemra chief pointed out that complaints of two TV channels in Karachi have been addressed. He said that transmission of those channels which aired material against the armed forces and judiciary, had been shut. A fine up to Rs one million has also been imposed on them.
