Massive power outage in Hyderabad after rainfall

The three hours long massive power outage in almost all parts of Hyderabad district left the smiles of the citizens back who were just thinking to start jubilation after receiving the first rainfall of the current monsoon season here on Wednesday evening.
Hyderabad received just 24.5 millimeters showers with wind velocity of 35 to 40 kilometers per hour, but the power went off in almost all parts of Hyderabad district soon after receiving the initial drops of showers at around 5.30 pm. The HESCO management though repeatedly carried out maintenance and repair of the power installations in all feeders and grid stations regularly with shutting down several hours power supply aimed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to consumers, but when contacted to HESCO spokesman on Wednesday evening about the causes of power outage, he replied that power supply from grid stations has been switched off to feeders in order to avert any fault during the rainfall. The power supply is being restored gradually after checking up the installations, he added.
Meanwhile, despite power outage and the accumulation of rainwater in low lying areas, the first rainfall brought sigh of relief to the citizens who were in gripped of severe humidity with scorching heat since last one week. Before start of the rainfall, the maximum temperature was 37 Celsius with 92 percent humidity. During the downpour, they started bathing at the rooftops of their houses while youth came out on roads and streets. The bike riders also enjoyed with riding in the accumulated rainwater on roads and some of them received injuries rushed to hospitals for first aid as a result of skidding of their bikes.
