Construction of Grand Hayat building: CDA to take action against officials for giving favours to BNP

04 Aug, 2016

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take action against several officials for giving undue favours to the BNP (Private) Limited for the construction of Grand Hayat building, which will house a five star hotel and 200 residential apartments.
Though the CDA board had recommended placing the directors of BNP (Private) Limited on the Exit Control List (ECL), however, it did not forward their names to the Ministry of Interior due to a restraining order issued by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
In a Board of Directors meeting held on July 29, the members decided that appropriate action should be taken action against the officials, who extended several relaxations to M/s BNP from time to time in contradiction to rules and regulations of the authority, causing huge loss to the CDA.
Sources in CDA told that senior officials of concerned departments including the management officials concerning Building Control, enforcement division who were supposed to keep the check, as well as the finance management, who did not take any action against the fraudulent on time, will be taken to task.
Furthermore, the construction of the building is a clear violation of CDA by Laws Subsequently, the board decided to cancel the lease agreement/allotment of M/s BNP (PVT) LTD, in accordance with the law after completing due process. Previously, CDA sealed the under-construction multi-storey Grant Hayat Hotel for various building and layout plan violations along with several other violations.
It may be mentioned that following the sealing of premises and termination of lease, the BNP (Private) Limited went to court of law but so far it has failed in achieving any success as both the CDA's decision regarding sealing and cancellation of lease to them are still intact.
