Appointment of judges: LHC moved

05 Aug, 2016

A lawyer here on Thursday approached the Lahore High Court on appointment of judges by inviting applications from lawyers having more than 10 years experience of practice in any High Court. The petitioner M H Mujahid through his counsel A K Dogar submitted that under the law, the strength of Lahore High Court's judge is 60 but posts of 13 judges were lying vacant.
The counsel said that it is fundamental right of every lawyer who is eligible and qualified under Article 193 (2) (b) to be appointed as judge of high court. He stated that appointment made without advertising is invalid and prayed to the court to invite applications throughout the country. He also prayed to the court to declare the appointment made in violation of Article 25 of the Constitution as void.
