SPC holds training workshop

05 Aug, 2016

The Sustainable Production Centre (SPC) organised a training workshop at the APTMA Punjab office for the textile industry professionals and Utility Managers of processing industry on prevention measures to minimise water, energy and chemicals consumption for textile pre-treatment, dyeing, printing and final finishing.
The SPC is a joint initiative of the APTMA and a German organisation GIZ for the textile industry of Pakistan. The centre is promoting best practices on reduction in water footprint through water conservation, reduction in carbon footprint through energy conservation and renewable energy for sustainability linked to the GSP plus. Moreover, SPC is also working on the implementation of labour and social standards to improve work conditions and living standards for workers.
Dr Harald Schoenberger, stand-in professor and Head of the Chair for Water Management and Water Recycling, University of Stuttgart, Germany conducted the workshop, which was attended by 25 managers representing textile mills all over the country. Dr Harald had already visited some eight textile mills across Pakistan to assess the issues faced by the textile industry on water, energy and chemicals consumption during the textile pre-treatment, dyeing, printing and final finishing.
He spoke at length about the smart concept to segregate individual waste water streams in order to optimise recycling and to minimise treatment costs. He also covered the areas of low-energy waste water treatment and minimisation of sludge generation which substantially contributes to minimising costs and the techniques for energy recovery from waste water.
