Export industry adheres to labour standards: SCCI President

A one day consultation workshop on "More and Better jobs through Socially Responsible Labour Practices in Sport Goods Industry in Pakistan," was organised by Employers Federation and International Labour Organisation (ILO) in collaboration with Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) held at SCCI on Thursday.
Addressing the workshop, President SCCI Mansoor Ahmed lauded the efforts of Employers Federation of Pakistan, ILO and other stakeholders for arranging the workshop and informed the house that export industry of Sialkot adhere to labour standards of Pakistan and making strenuous efforts to comply to standards keeping in view the international market.
Industry is labour intense which is getting costly making difficult to compete in international market, however we are determined to meet the standards and provide facilities to the human resource maintaining good business practice, he said. The SCCI President further stated that we will also strengthen our ability to take full advantage of tremendous business opportunities offered by globalisation.
Mansoor said, "We are making efforts to reach out to the business world showing our capabilities and potential of connecting ourselves with economic, social and moral values for maintained and promoted by national and international social standards". The business community of Sialkot had done everything in social compliance and promotion of business and committed to continue serving the people and the country by continuing to its social obligations and global commitments but also feel that we have been stretched beyond the limit, he said. The SCCI President further stated that in order to generate more and better jobs all stakeholders should play their role to motivate maximum multinational brands to source their quality products from Sialkot.
