Plea challenging Wapda officers' promotion dismissed

06 Aug, 2016

The Supreme Court here on Friday dismissed a petition of Wapda chairman challenging promotion of two officers Muhammad Aleem and Naveed Qureshi of the authority ordered by Federal Services Tribunal (FST). The petition on behalf of the chairman stated that the promotion order of Muhammad Aleem of BS-14 and Naveed Qureshi of BS-17 passed by the tribunal was contrary to facts.
The chairman's counsel said departments of the two officers attached with Wapda were already dissolved when the tribunal passed the impugned order. He said there was no justification for the promotion of the respondent officers as their posts were also scraped.
However, counsel of the two officers argued that dissolution of the attached departments did not seize the right of promotion. He said denying promotion to any entitled officer was violation of fundamental rights. The court after hearing the arguments dismissed the petition.
