The Karachi Port handled 82,357 tonnes of cargo comprising 78,866 tonnes of import cargo and 3,491 tonnes of export cargo including 4,255 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday The total import cargo of 78,866 tonnes comprised of 30,047 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,288 tonnes of general cargo; 26,131 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 13,257 tonnes of coal; 3,966 tonnes of soyabean meal; 2,708 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 6,200 tonnes of rock phosphate and 20,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 3,491 tonnes comprised of 2,044 tonnes of containerised cargo; 97 tonnes of general cargo and 1,350 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,255 containers comprising of 3,083 containers import and 1,172 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The break-up of imported containers shows 1,048 of 20's and 1,007 of 40's loaded while 11 of 20's and 5 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 122 of 20's and 270 of 40's loaded containers while 88 of 20's and 211 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely Batam Trader, Oriental Nadebhiko, Pine-3 and Bao Yue carrying containers, oil tanker, steel and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were five vessels viz. Cosco Wellington, Wan Hai-501, Sima Prestige, Cosco Sao Paulo and Mona carrying containers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely FPMC-20 carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely Cosco Wellington and New Age carrying containers and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There were eight vessels viz. Hyundai Colombo, Fowairet, Al Salam-II, Ocean Gladiator, Minoan Grace, JS Loire, JS Rhine and African Glory carrying containers, soyabean oil, diesel oil, DAP, coal and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Friday while two vessels viz. Argent Freesia and Ever Precious carrying chemical and coal respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
