Jordan tenders to buy wheat, barley

07 Aug, 2016

Jordan's state grain buyer has issued new international tenders for 100,000 tonnes of hard milling wheat and 100,000 tonnes of animal feed barley to be sourced from optional origins, European traders said on Wednesday. The deadline for the wheat tender is August 9 and for the barley tender August 10, they said.
Wheat with a minimum 11 percent protein content was sought. Some 50,000 tonnes of wheat was sought for shipment between February 15-28 and 50,000 tonnes between March 1-15, both 2017, they said. Some 50,000 tonnes of barley was sought for shipment between January 1-15 and 50,000 tonnes between January 16-31, both 2017, they said.
Jordan has had trouble importing wheat and barley in past months after introducing new terms on quality control and payment which reduced participation by international trading houses. A government source said on June 17 that Jordan had changed its wheat import purchase terms to attract more suppliers. In its last wheat tender on July 27, Jordan purchased 50,000 tonnes of hard milling wheat to be sourced from optional origins after seeking offers for 100,000 tonnes.
