GEPCO arrests 61 more electricity thieves

In its vigorous drive against menacing power theft in its region, the Gujranwala Electricity Power Company (GEPCO) arrested 61 more electricity thieves and recovered Rs 2.165 million as cost of 136,614 units.
GEPCO spokesman told Business Recorder that FIRs have been lodged against 9 accused for criminal proceedings against them. Meanwhile GEPCO Chief Executive Chaudhry Muhammad Akram has ordered the field staff to repair the loose live electricity wires in the streets and markets of the cities to protect the citizens from electric shocks and electrocution. The spokesman said that GEPCO has ordered purchase of 0.3 million new single phase meters for new connections in the districts of Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad. -PR
