Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to convene a high-level meeting today (Wednesday) for a detailed discussion on implementation of the National Action Plan. Sources said that Ministry of Interior would submit an implementation report on 20-point NAP to the meeting. The minister would inform the meeting regarding the progress made after December 2014 attack on Army Public School. The meeting would also devise and approve a strategy for effective co-ordination among the various departments against such activities.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting to review the internal security situation and implementation of the NAP. The meeting discussed at length the internal security situation of the country and different aspects of the National Action Plan. Minster for Interior Chaudhry Nisar and National security Advisor Lieutenant General Nasir Khan Janjua (Retd) briefed the premier on how terrorist organisations are attacking soft targets.
The meeting observed that after achieving successful results from the operation Zarb-e-Azb in Fata, terrorists are now changing their targets other than the state institutions out of desperation. The Prime Minister said that we are in a state of war with an ideology that wants to change our way of life. He said the government is committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure that blood spilled in the Quetta carnage does not go waste.
Nawaz Sharif emphasised on flawless co-ordination between law enforcement agencies as well as among the provincial governments and the federal government to achieve optimum results within a short period of time. The Prime Minister expressed his resolve that we will make Pakistan secure from every kind of terrorism and extremism; the country has embarked upon a right track and we will enable every citizen to reap the benefits of a secure, stable and prosperous Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated.
The premier further added that terrorists think that they can sow the seeds of disharmony and disunity in the nation. The nation is united and supports the government to stay on the course of completely eliminating the terrorists from the Pakistani society. Those who attended the meeting included Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar and National security Advisor Lieutenant General Nasir Khan Janjua (Retd), Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to PM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and other senior government officials.
