Imran flays government for 'propaganda' against his charities

Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, on Thursday came down hard on the government for propaganda against his charity organisations such as Namal College and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH). In a statement issued here, he said that the propaganda was being deliberately done by the propaganda cell headed by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the daughter of the prime minister, at the cost of taxpayers' money.
He said that the reason behind the propaganda was to divert the attention of people from the Panama Papers which exposed Sharif family's money laundering, tax evasion and concealing of assets. He pointed out that SKMCH was targeted despite the fact that the hospital was spending Rs 4 billion a year to provide free cancer treatment to poor and needy, adding all the money is raised through donations from people. After finding no other option to mislead people, he said the same PML-N gang under Maryam Nawaz started targeting Namal College where 90 percent students are getting free education culminating in a Bradford University degree which would otherwise cost a student at least Rs 2-3 crore.
The lies that were spread now stand exposed by a Trustee of Namal College who is also the designated point man for the charity in the UK - Tahir Nawaz. "Tahir Nawaz is on record as he pointed out that he had details of all bank accounts and fundraisers and no money was ever sent to Dubai let alone to any of Imran's sisters or offshore investment," he added.
Khan also reminded that the accounts of Namal College were in the public domain and can be verified by anyone interested and Khan has also put them on the social media through twitter. Meanwhile, a delegation of PTI met managing director Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and apprised him about the stories being run by the state run news agency to tarnish the image of a charity organisation. The delegation also warned the MD APP not to indulge in such controversies or else the party will be left with no other option but to drag them to the court as state run news agency should not be misused for political gains and point scoring.
