National Assembly passes ECP members' Salary, Allowance, Perks, Privileges Bill, 2016

The National Assembly on Monday passed "The Members, Election Commission (Salary, Allowances, Perk and Privileges) Bill, 2016" with majority vote to provide legal cover to the salaries, allowances and perks and privileges to the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The opposition members strongly opposed the Bill and said that it is illegal action of the government. They said that the government should have passed this Bill earlier as the members of ECP are illegally getting salaries, allowances and perks and privileges. According to "The Members, Election Commission (Salary, Allowances, Perk and Privileges) Bill, 2016". "This law shall come into force at once and shall be deemed to have taken effect on and from the 13th June, 2011."
The Bill further says, "Salary, allowances, perks and privileges.-A Member shall be entitled to the same salary, allowances, perks and privileges as admissible to a judge of the High Court. Provident Fund.-A Member may, at his option, become a subscriber to the General Provident Fund and, if he so opts, shall subscribe to the Fund as a compulsory subscriber according to the General Provident Fund (Central Services) Rules." According to objective of the Bill, "the proposed provisions in the Bill have become inevitable with the Hon'ble Members Election Commission after the Constitution Amendment) Act, 2010 so as to provide their salary, allowances and privileges."
