FBR to respond to Imran's allegations today

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will formally respond to the allegations Tuesday (August 16), levelled against two of its top officials by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan who accused them of manipulating the tax files of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The PTI chairman has accused two senior FBR officials-Member Inland Revenue (IR) Operations and Chief Income Tax FBR-which he claimed have been assigned the special task of manipulating the tax return files of the PM.
A senior FBR official said that the FBR has prepared the response which would be dully issued on Tuesday following approval of FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan. Official claimed that the field formations of the FBR have been demoralised following allegations against their head ie FBR Member IR Operation who is primarily responsible for collection and monitoring of revenue collection at national level.
Official was of the view that the revenue collection of Inland Revenue ie sales tax, federal excise duty and direct taxes has suddenly dropped from estimated Rs 17-18 billion to around Rs 2 billion on Monday. The attention of the field formations of the Inland Revenue Service has been diverted to the said statement/allegations of the PTI Chairman through out the day, resulting in very low revenue collection on Monday.
