Ladies Club: KP government constitutes 14-member Governing Body

The Local Government Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has constituted 14- member Governing Body for running the affairs of Ladies Club in University Town Peshawar following the directives of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amjad Ali Khan. According to the notification issued in this regard, the management committee comprising 5 high government officers and 9 local residents will work for one year or till holding the elections. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has also notified the rules for the club under Local Government Act 2013.
It is worth mentioning that major portion of this 38 Kanals grand Park was given on long term lease for commercial purposes due to unavailability of the rules that also included Dewan-e-Khas and Coffee Pot. However, the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak took strong notice of the Public Complaints regarding illegal occupation and encroachments in the club after the present government came into power. Hence the District and Municipal Administration came into action and freed the park from Qabza Mafia as well as removed all the encroachments in the club premises.
Secretary Local Government and Rural Development Department Syed Jamaluddin Shah have been appointed chairman of the governing body while other members included Deputy Commissioner Peshawar. Secretary Local Council Board, Director General Sports, TMO Town-III and permanent residents of University Town associated with Sports, Culture and Women Welfare affairs. Under the rules, there will be complete ban on using land of the club for any other purpose except healthy activities of the locals. Similarly, the neither club would be given on lease or rent nor any sort of encroachments could be erected anywhere in the club premises.
The Governing Body has been allowed to affiliate the club with other reputed clubs all over the country including Civil Officers Club, Peshawar Club, Gym Khana Club Lahore and Islamabad Club etc. The rules have also covered the Modus operandi for club membership, fee structure and code of ethics wherein only permanent residents of the University Town can become club members. However, defaulters, bankrupts and criminal convicted persons are ineligible for membership.
