KP government promulgates Police Ordinance 2016

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has promulgated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Ordinance, 2016 and notified it on 1st August in the larger interest of the general public. The Ordinance is of vital importance and its early implementation is the need of the hour. Under the Ordinance the District Police Officer has been bound to present six months police performance report in the District Assembly and take the public representatives into confidence on it.
They were also directed to seek guidelines from the members of the District Assembly regarding the issues faced by police force. It may be recalled that in this connection so far District Police Officers (DPOs) of districts Hangu, Haripur, Shangla, Batagram and Torghar have already briefed their respective District Assemblies. The pubic representatives while welcoming this step has appreciated the performance of the present provincial government and the services of the police force.
The Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Khan Durrani has directed the remaining DPOs of the province to present their six months report in their respective District Assemblies by the end of this month and seek guidelines from them in respect of the problems and challenges being faced by the force.
It may be recalled that the Police Ordinance 2016 is a paradigm shift on part of the government and its immediate implementation in letter and spirit would be of immense benefit for the general public. It will also ensure professionalism in police force and will make it accountable to the public.
