Taseer kidnapping case: ATC adjourns hearing till September 7

23 Aug, 2016

An anti-terrorism court on Monday adjourned hearing of trial of four suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer's son Shahbaz Taseer to September 07 as police sought time to record statement of Shahbaz. Earlier investigating officer appeared before the court and said notice could not be served on Shahbaz Taseer for recording his statement. The court had in May 2014 suspended proceedings of the trial after granting bail to four suspects, Usman, Abdul Rehman, Farhad and Moazzam.
The suspects filed application before the court for resuming their trial after recovery of Shahbaz Taseer from captivity in Afghan Taliban. The suspects requested the court that they be acquitted as charges against them have been proved false after recovery of Shahbaz Taseer. Shahbaz Taseer was kidnapped from Gulberg area in August 2011 and security force had recovered him from Kuchlak (Balochistan) in March 2016.
