Illegal appointments in Gepco: NAB asked to get former PM's statement by September 6

23 Aug, 2016

The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to get a statement of the former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf by September 06, about his alleged involved in illegal appointments in Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).
Iftikhar Shahid appearing before the court on behalf of petitioner Raja Pervez Ashraf submitted that NAB was continuously issuing notices to his client which was against the settled principles, because if NAB needed some information then it should clearly mention in the notice. He submitted that his client never influenced the appointments in the electricity sector.
At this, NAB special prosecutor Zahid Minhas told the bench that the information required to NAB was clearly mentioned in the notice issued to the respondent and produced a copy of that notice. However, the court directed the prosecutor to submit a detailed written reply as to what information it required from the ex-Prime Minister before it and rose for the day.
It may be recalled that earlier the court had turned down a request of the former PM to stop the NAB from issuing notices to him. He stated that NAB had been playing in the hands of the PML-N government and prayed to set aside the notices issued to him.
