Department heads directed to strengthen internal audit system

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has directed the heads of provincial departments for making the internal check and balance system of their respective departments more effective. The directives were issued during a meeting of the PAC KP Assembly here Monday with MPA Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha here in the provincial assembly secretariat.
Besides, MPAs Mohammad Idrees Khan, Mahmood Jan, Mufti Said Janan, Wasim Hayat, Qurban Ali and Mahmood Bhatni, Secretaries Transport, Irrigation, Director General (DG) Audit, Additional Secretary Assembly, Amjad Ali and other higher authorities also attended.
The meeting discussed audit objections regarding Departments of Transport and Irrigation relating to financial year 2012-13. The meeting expressed concern that due to lack of co-ordination between government departments and audit office, minor matters have also been presented before the PAC, which results in the wastage of the time of the committee.
The committee directed the departments for maintaining close co-ordination with audit department to resolve small and minor matters are lower level. The committee issued directives to heads of government departments for the strengthening of internal check and balance system for bringing transparency in their departments and also redressed the public complaints.
The Public Accounts Committee also directed the Irrigation Department for adopting an effective strategy for the recovery of abiyana and other receipts. Authorities of Transport Department was directed to prepare effective mechanism for the arrears to the tone of millions of rupees in head of route permits and renewal of bus stands to deposit them in the provincial exchequer.
