Prices of most vegetables witness increase

Vegetables prices have witnessed an increase, while non perishable kitchen items and fruits prices remained unchanged during this past week over the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday. The survey observed that price of most of the vegetables which witnessed significant reduction during past week has witnessed an increase during the week under review. Vegetable traders attributed the increase in the vegetable prices to shortage of supply as a result of countrywide rains.
Ginger price went up by Rs 250 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 400 per 5 kg to Rs 650 per 5 kg, good quality potatoes from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 180 per 5 kg, garlic from Rs 1,250 per 5 kg to Rs 1,350 per 5 kg, peas from Rs 500 per 5 kg to Rs 800 per 5 kg, kadu from Rs 170 per 5 kg to Rs 200 per 5 kg, Kareela from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 280 per 5 kg, tinda from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 275 per 5 kg, carrot from Rs 250 per 5 kg to Rs 500 per 5 kg, and cucumber from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 300 per 5 kg.
Tomato price also witnessed an increase of Rs 30 per 5 kg from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 180 per 5 kg, while onion price witnessed a decline from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 110 per 5 kg. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg in retail market, garlic at Rs 280 per kg, potatoes in the range of Rs 30-40 per kg, ginger at Rs 150 per kg and onions at Rs 30 per kg.
Karaila in retail market is being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 50 per kg, cucumber at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, tinda at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 55 per kg, arvi at Rs 60 per kg and bean at Rs 70 per kg. Cauliflower price is stable at Rs 350 per 5 kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, cabbage went up by Rs 50 per 5 kg from Rs 200 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg and capsicum with an increase of Rs 150 per 5 kg from Rs 300 per 5 kg to Rs 450 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 100 per kg per kg against Rs 75 per kg.
Okra with no change in price is being sold at Rs 250 per 5 kg in wholesales market which in retail market is being sold at Rs 60 per kg, and torri at Rs 230 per 5 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg.
Brinjal price is stable at Rs 150 per 5 kg which in retail market are being available at Rs 40 per kg, peas are being available at 160 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, carrot at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 80 per kg. No change was observed in sugar price which in wholesales market is available at Rs 3,500 per bag, while in retail market the commodity is being sold at Rs 75 per kg. During the week under review the chicken prices in wholesales market remained stable at Rs 4,400 per 40 kg which in retail market is being sold at Rs 130 per kg, while chicken meat is being available at Rs 240 per kg.
The survey noted that the prices of entire range of pulses remained unchanged during the week under review as mash is being sold at Rs 240 per kg, moong at Rs 140 per kg, lobia at Rs 120 per kg, Masoor at Rs 140 per kg, dal channa at Rs 150 per kg and Kabali channa at Rs 190 per kg.
No change was witnessed in egg price which are being available at Rs 85 per dozen in wholesales market while at Rs 96 per dozen in retail market. Wheat flour price is also stable at Rs 740 per 20 kg bag, Lipton Yellow Label tea one kg pack price at Rs 670 per kg, good quality ghee/cooking oil is being sold at Rs 820 per 5 kg and good quality rice at Rs 120 per kg. The prices of mutton and beef are also unchanged according to butchers the sale of mutton and beef has significantly reduced with the nearing of Eid.
The prices of most of the fruits during the week under review witnessed a reduction as good quality mangoes are being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, guava at Rs 60 per kg and best quality grapes at Rs 140 per kg while normal at Rs 100 per kg. Best quality local banana price witnessed a reduction of Rs 30 per dozen from Rs 100 per dozen to Rs 70 per dozen and normal quality from Rs 70 per dozen to Rs 48 per dozen.
Peach is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, melon at Rs 40-60 per kg, different qualities of apples are being sold in the range of Rs 50 per kg to Rs 250 per kg, apricot is being sold in the range of Rs 100 per kg to Rs 150 per kg and pear is being available at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 150 per kg.
