Annual revision: ECP expected to register 98 million voters

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is expected to register an estimated 98 million voters in annual revision process which is scheduled to conclude on Monday. Under the annual revision of electoral rolls for year 2016, all new National Identity Card (NIC) holders shall be made part of the electoral rolls and all voters who have become disqualified (deaths/cancelled NICs) shall be excluded from the rolls after their door-to-door verification followed by the display process.
Sources said that 20 days door-to-door verification of voters will end on Monday and voter count is expected to increase from 93 million to 97-98 million after the revision process. According to the annual plan, verification of voters shall be followed by 21 days of display process starting from September, 20 2016. For the said purpose verifying officials shall visit the permanent addresses of the new NIC holders for their verification. Simultaneously, door-to-door verification of all the deceased voters shall also be carried out for deletion of said voters.
After door-to-door verification, the said lists shall be displayed at designated display centres, offices of District Election Commissioners, Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers for public inspection. General public/voters can check their vote status by sending their NIC number to '8300' via SMS through their mobile phones. Applications for enrolment/transfer, correction and deletion of votes could be submitted on prescribed forms at designated display centres, offices of District Election Commissioners, Registration Officers and Assistant Registration Officers.
The ECP issued necessary instructions to all the Provincial Election Commissioners, Regional Election Commissioners, District Election Commissioners, Nadra and all concerned to complete all the pre-requisites of the revision process at the earliest. An official of the ECP said that it was decided that effective monitoring shall also be carried out throughout the process of Annual Revision. To make the revision process successful, general public/voters, media and CSOs were requested to extend their cooperation and support the process.
