Support to militancy in Balochistan decreases: Bizenjo

28 Aug, 2016

Chief of Balochistan National Party Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, who is also federal minister for ports and shipping, has said there has been significant reduction in support for militancy in Balochistan. In an interview with BBC Urdu Service, Bizenjo said that the fighting is no more with the State but among Baloch tribes themselves. He said the killing of Sardar Akbar Bugti was the major fault of the rulers of that time. He said whatever is today happening in Balochistan is due to murder of Bugti.
Bizenjo said there has been significant decrease in support for militancy in Balochistan as compared to a decade back. He said now the fight is among Baloch brothers themselves. Replying to a question about dialogue with estranged Balochs, the National Party chief said that former Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and Federal Minister General Abdul Qadir Baloch (Retd) held meetings with the Baloch leaders abroad with the backing of the Prime Minister and the Army Chief. He said there was nothing in the demands of Brahamdagh Bugti which could not be accepted by the State of Pakistan.
He said Brahamdagh Bugti wanted implementation of agreements reached between his grandfather and Pakistan govt and jobs for the people of his tribe in PPL. He said on return home, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch met CoAS General Raheel Sharif and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and informed them about the demands of younger Bugti. He said both the Prime Minister and the CoAS had agreed to accept these demands. Bizenjo said he is not aware of the progress in talks with Brahamdagh Bugti after the removal of his party government in Balochistan.
To a question about the implementation of "Aaghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan" programme, he said some positive work was done when Mian Raza Rabbani was chairman of the committee. However, the programme lost its utility when Rehman Malik was made chairman. He said Balochistan was promised 5,000 jobs and his party's government also tried to fulfil this promise but there was no progress on it. He admitted that forced disappearances and recovery of dead bodies could not end during their government.
