Manchar Lake: Committee reviews health issues of fishermen

A committee headed by the Commissioner Hyderabad, Qazi Shahid Pervez reviewed and discussed the health issues of the fishermen of Manchar Lake here at the Deputy Commissioner's Camp Office Sehwan. The committee, formed after taking over the notice of the Supreme Court regarding prevalence of diseases particularly Hepatitis and non supply of safe water to fishermen of Manchar Lake, discussed at length the prevailing situation and prepared a report in the light of the suggestions of the elected representatives, fishermen of the lake and officers of the concerned departments.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner said that the provincial government fully committed to provide all required facilities to the people at their doorsteps. He assured that all out efforts would be made to address permanently the issues being faced by the fishermen of the Manchar Lake. He informed that after hearing the grievances and suggestions of the fishermen, elected representatives and officers of the concerned departments, a detailed report has been prepared which would be submitted to the government with request of provision of all required facilities in the area.
The report also suggested the conduct of medical camps in the area from PPHI and Hepatitis Control Programme for carrying out free clinical tests and examinations as well as provision of vaccines and medicines to the residents, Commissioner informed.
The Commissioner said that all out efforts would be made to save the lake water from pollution and effluent so that hatching of fishes could be carried out in smooth direction. In this regard, the effluent would be disposed off into sea through right bank outfall drain instead to release the same into Indus River.
The Commissioner along with other members of the committee also visited Manchar Lake to get updated situation and obtained the technical information during inspection of the R.O. Plant of the area. Among others, the Deputy Commissioner Dadu Munawar Ali Mahesar, Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Raja Shah Zaman Khoro, Water Consultant Dr Ahsan Siddiqui and Programme Manager Hepatitis Control Programme under initiative of Sindh Chief Minister Dr Abdul Khaliq Shaikh were also present on the occasion.
