Mayor Sheikh Anser made CDA Chairman

07 Sep, 2016

The federal government on Tuesday handed rein of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to newly elected Mayor of the Federal Capital. Sources said that federal government appointed Mayor Sehikh Anser Aziz as Chairman CDA aiming at putting an end to ongoing tussle between CDA and newly formed Metropolitan Corporation, Islamabad (MCI) as CDA was reportedly creating hurdles in smooth transfers of assets and employees.
The notification of Mayor's new assignment as Chairman CDA has also been issued, Business Recorder learnt. Sources said that federal government has discretion to appoint anyone as CDA's board member and according to CDA Ordinance, one of the board members could be appointed Chairman CDA. So to remove this lacuna, the government issued two notifications, first making the mayor as member of CDA, and in next notification, the government appointed him as Chairman CDA. The CDA and MCI were at loggerheads over various matters pertaining to the transfer of employees and assets. Recently, Prime Minister while chairing a meeting at PM office had expressed utter dissatisfaction with the CDA's performance and took notice of the power struggle between CDA and MCI.
