LUMHS VC inaugurates 'skills laboratory'

The Vice Chancellor LUMHS Professor Noshad A Shaikh inaugurated a Skills Laboratory at Gynecology Unit 1, Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad on Tuesday. The Laboratory has been established by "Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program" (MCHIP) in collaboration with LUMHS. MCHIP is a USAID Bureau for Global Health's flagship maternal, neonatal and child health (MNCH) program which focuses on reducing maternal, neonatal and child mortality.
While addressing at the inaugural ceremony the Vice Chancellor Professor Noshad A Shaikh said that the Liaquat University intends to build new and creative alliances to strengthen the provincial health system and the delivery of effective evidence-based maternal, new-born and child health services.
He added that various maternal and child health programs in the country are improving health of women and children by increasing access, availability, and utilization of key health services, as well as strengthening the health system. The Vice Chancellor offered full support on the part of University for the implementation of Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program in the region. Dr Sahib Jan Bader Provincial Program Co-ordinator Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health Program, Ministry of Health, Government of Pakistan expressed that in Pakistan infants and new-born babies die mainly due to birth asphyxia, intra-uterine growth retardation, acute respiratory infections and diarrhea. All of these causes are both preventable and treatable.
