Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has asked the Ministry of Interior to notify the eligible institutions/organisations for collection of hides and skins during Eid days well-in-time so as to enable them to make appropriate and timely arrangements for preservation of the precious raw materials.
The PTA Chairman Hides & Skins Improvement Subcommittee Agha Saiddain told Business Recorder on Tuesday that he had written a letter to the Secretary Interior for issuing a notification regarding the eligible institutions. He said that the PTA had also signed an agreement with the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) and European Union's Pakistan Leather Competitive Improvement Program (PLCIP) for preservation of hides & skins.
He recalled that due to improper management/preservation of hide and skins on Eid ul Azha last year, the country suffered a loss of over Rs 4.0 billion. Therefore, PTA arranged a workshop in Lahore for creating awareness of representatives of different charity organisations and institutions to preserve very precious raw material for the leather industry. Experts and researchers from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences presented generic and scientific methods for preserving the stocks collected during upcoming Eid, he added.
