Bureau of STAGS, University of Sindh Jamshoro organized a remarkable function to commemorate the glorious martyrdom and indelible sacrifices of Armed Forces of Pakistan rendered by them on the eve of unjustifiable aggression to Pakistan by India. Professor Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sindh was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
Whereas, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti, Wing Commander Hyderabad was the Guest of Honour and keynote speaker. The event was attended enthusiastically by hundreds of participants that included teachers, officers, students and employees. Professor Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro sharing his views on this occasion said that it was a historic moment, for it was for the first time in the annals of history of University of Sindh that the Defence Day celebrations were being marked at the Varsity.
Dr Kalhoro observed that the sign of a great nation was always not to forget its benefactors and martyrs; nation of Pakistan, he mentioned, was also such grateful nation. Dr Kalhoro, obtaining approval of the audience, paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the 6th September 1965, and reiterated the commitment of Sindh University teachers, students, officers and employees, stressing that they would take it as a rare honour to give away their lives for their beloved motherland Pakistan, as and when such need would arise. Dr Kalhoro traced the history of Pakistan's nuclear program to the patriotic endeavours of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Ex-Prime Minister Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He also offered rich credit to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, former premier of the country for consolidating this program.
He said that internal cohesion, economic development, educational strength and spirit of patriotism formed the power pivots of any nation. Dr Kalhoro asserted that University of Sindh had always enjoyed the proud privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan Armed Forces by battling from the academic front and by producing scholars of national and international stature.
Inviting attention of the students, Dr Kalhoro urged that each one of them was a devoted soldier of Pakistan, and they should prove so by their words and deeds. Dr Kalhoro stressed that refrain from corruption and embezzlement, respect for merit and integrity of character constituted the firm foundations of or any nation's overall progress. Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Ashraf Bhatti, the keynote speaker of the occasion, thanked University of Sindh and its Vice-Chancellor for having organized the given function first time ever in the history of the University. He candidly admitted that he had gross disinformation as regarded the character and conduct of students of University of Sindh, which, as he reflected were said to be 'vandals and hooligans. But, he said he found them in absolute reverse.
