The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has lauded the Punjab government's Safe City Project to beef up security arrangements at international level in the province. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Tayyab Hafeez Cheema had a meeting with the LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed, Convenor of the LCCI Standing Committee on Internal Trade Affairs Mujahid Maqsood Butt and other executive committee members here on Tuesday to brief them about the latest security measures being taken by the government for protection of life and property of the people.
It is pertinent to mention here, the Safe City Project is being launched under an agreement signed by the Punjab government and a Chinese company-Huawei, under which 8023 cameras would will be installed in Lahore while modern cameras will also be fixed on 800 vehicles in the city which will modernised the system of surveillance.
Cheema said that under the Punjab Safe City Project to be launched in next month, 24 hour monitoring will be conducted by the control and command center that would bring Lahore at par with the big cities of the developed world. He said that traffic police will frequently visits the city markets to keep the vehicular traffic on the move. Besides, the traffic police is providing necessary assistance to the administration in removal of encroachments in the city which are the biggest hurdle in the flow of traffic, he said.
Nasir Saeed assured of the Chamber's assistance. Business Recorder has learnt the provincial government is planning to also launch this project in other cities including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Multan which will be completed by 2018.
