Pakistani cabinet in its meeting held on July 15, 2016 in Lahore under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif discussed the likelihood of a terrorist attack to malign the peaceful movement of Kashmiris by branding it as terrorism by the Indian government.
This was revealed in the minutes of the Cabinet meeting, a copy of which is available with BR. The Cabinet was informed that the Indian government had been taken aback by the spontaneous outpouring of grief and anguish at the killing of Burhan Wani; and the latest uprising proved that the movement in Kashmir was indigenous and not orchestrated from outside and the situation was likely to get worse with each passing day as the Indian government was bent upon crushing it.
The cabinet noted that no one had accused Pakistan of sponsoring the Kashmir movement and that it was an indigenous struggle against Indian occupation and that Pakistan should emphasise that Indian brutalities in Kashmir were not only against democratic norms but would lead to extremism in the valley. The cabinet promised sustained moral, diplomatic and political support to the peaceful struggle of Kashmiris in line with UN Security Council resolutions and discussed the possibility of either convening an All Parties Conference or joint session of parliament.
According to sources the cabinet also desired the Foreign Office to develop a narrative and consistently follow it as part of its overall Kashmir strategy, urged the Kashmir committee to play its rightful role in sensitising the world about Kashmir crisis and to activate the Pakistani Diaspora to lobby for the rightful cause of the Kashmiris.
