Territorial re-organisation of Peshawar city approved

21 Sep, 2016

A meeting of Police Policy Board was held at CPO under the chairmanship of IGP Nasir Khan Durrani here Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Addl IGP HQrs, Addl IGP SB/CTD, Addl IGP Operations, Addl IGP/Commandant Elite, Commandant FRP, CCPO, Peshawar, DIG Tele, DIG F&P. AIG Establishment, AIG Legal, Director IT and SP PWT. The meeting after deliberations approved the new territorial re-organisation of district Peshawar and approved the creation of one new division, one sub-division and realignment of certain police stations.
It has to be recalled that some time back the IGP had constituted a committee of former CCPOs and SSPs (Operations) to examine and suggest territorial re-organisation of district Peshawar to improve policing and ensure effective supervision. The committee discussed the matter with different stake holders and also made field visits. After thorough analysis, the committee submitted its report to IGP. The report suggested that keeping in view of the vastness of Rural Division Peshawar and its crime ratio it becomes difficult for police officers to give enough time and attention to public grievances. Consequently, the monitoring of crime was negatively affected and redressal of public complaints was not up to the expectations.
The Police Policy Board on Tuesday in its meeting took up this issue and discussed its pros and cons. After detailed deliberations it was found that it will be in the fitness of things to carve out a new division out of the existing Rural and Cantt Divisions with the name of Saddar Division, one new sub division to be called as Saddar sub-division and realignment of certain police stations with the new proposed division and subdivision.
The board observed that this step would ensure effective supervision of the police and improve interaction of senior officers with the locals. It will also facilitate the redressal of public grievances and improve quality of policing in the area.
