What factors lie at the heart of Pakistan's dysfunction and how does one begin to set things in order? Is Pakistan's future going to be better than the past? What ails Pakistan and why is it taking the country so long to address its ailments? A new book titled "Putting Pakistan Right: Standpoints on the war on terror, energy, transit corridors & economic development seeks to set into motion an energetic discussion on the issues facing Pakistan and how to address them.
The book is set to launch on Thursday, 22nd September at the Karachi Gymkhana Club at 5 pm. Eminent speakers and personalities will elaborate on some of the themes the book covers. Among these will be Hussain Haroon, Pakistan's former ambassador to the United Nations who will deliver the keynote address. This will be followed by a panel discussion between Saleem Raza, former governor State Bank of Pakistan, and Arshad A. Zuberi of Business Recorder while Khurram Husain, prominent economic journalist, will moderate the discussion.
"Putting Pakistan Right is the first book to attempt to simultaneously place the country's current woes in the contexts of both security and economic challenges, in an easy and accessible manner," writes Sakib Sherani, a former principal economic adviser to the Ministry of Finance in a recent review; terming it as "eminently readable". Several leaders from business, industry, government circles, media and civil society are expected to attend and contribute to the discussion that the book hopes to spark. The writer, Moazzam Husain, is an entrepreneur as well as prolific opinion piece (op-ed) contributor, with a breadth of relevant experience in business and government.-PR
