Professor Dr Shabbir Lehri, President Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has been elected as member at large for Management Committee of IAMRA in the 12th International Conference of International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA) held from 20 to 23 September in Melbourne, Australia. He has been elected for a term of four years from 2016 to 2020.
President PMDC is the only candidate elected from Asia which is an honour for Pakistan and the entire region. Dr Joanna Flynn (Australia), Susan Goldsmith (UK), Dr Tebogo Kgosiesile (South Africa), Dr Heidi Oetter (Canada), Dr Carlos Vital (Brazillian) had also been elected in the contest. The meeting was attended by many delegates mostly head of regulatory authorities from all over the world .IAMRA currently has 103 members from 46 countries and PMDC is a member organization.
The IAMRA Management Committee has eight members at large each of the world regions out of 8 members at large Professor Dr Shabir Lehri is one of them. There were candidates form Central &North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australasia - Pacific. IAMRA has mandated its members to carry out the policies laid down by the general assembly and has fully empowered its committee members to perform all acts and transact all business for and on behalf of IAMRA.
The Minister of NHRS&C, Saira Afzal Tarar also congratulated president PMDC on becoming part of such esteem organization. She said it is indeed a proud moment for Pakistan as being member of this committee President PMDC will be able to provide the leadership in the development and implementation of IAMRA's strategic plan and decisions worldwide.-PR
