43 vehicles impounded: drive against tax evaders in full swing

The drive against tax evaders of motor vehicle tax is in full swing as the Sindh Excise and Taxation (E&T) department, out of 5,285 vehicles checked during last three days, impounded 43 vehicles over tax default. The E&T department on the directives of the minister, kicked off drive against tax evaders on September 20, 2016 and during last three days, the department has inspected some 5285 vehicles and impounded 43 out of them over the charge of tax default while the documents of 868 vehicles have also been confiscated over non-payment of motor vehicle tax.
The department during last three days of ongoing drive also claimed to have recovered evaded tax amounting to Rs 0.884 million. Meanwhile, official sources said that provincial minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla expressed satisfaction over the performance of the department and directed concerned staff to accelerate the efforts and kept performing duties with no pressure.
In addition, the department has also recovered 57 kilogram of Hashish in two separate raids and took two accused into custody with their vehicles. In first raid, a team of E&T department has intercepted a car bearing no ADZ 757 at National Highway near Thari check post. During inspection, an accused Muhammad Tariq Brohi was arrested with 35 kilogram Hashish. Similarly, around 22 kilogram Hashish has been recovered at Kamoshaheed Ubauro located at Punjab Border and took a person namely Saeed ur Rehman into custody. Consequent upon drug recoveries, cases have been registered against the detained persons. Further investigation was underway.
