The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the superintendent Punjab Institute of Mental Health to discharge a retired woman officer, Farhat Khan, admitted to the facility by her nephew. Earlier, the institute's MS, Dr Nasir Mahmood, appeared before the court along with the woman and told the court that Farhat Khan was mentally ill at the time of her admission to the hospital.
He, however, said, the woman was now fully healthy. He disclosed that the hospital repeatedly tried to establish a contact with the nephew of the woman but he appeared not to be willing to take his aunt back. The court directed the MS to discharge the lady and observed that the woman was free to go wherever she wanted to go. The court also directed the secretary health Punjab to submit details of such patients who were admitted to the mental health institute by their families misleading the hospital.
