A spokesman of the Ministry of Finance here on Thursday strongly contradicted a news item appeared in a section of English press that government was considering freezing of foreign currency account. The spokesman said that the news item titled "Government considers freezing foreign currency accounts" which appeared in a section of English press September 29 (Thursday) comprised false statements and concoctions which have no ground.
"No such suggestions to freeze foreign currency accounts in the country have been made to the Prime Minister by the Finance Minister", he remarked in a statement issued here. This news story, he said was an attempt to malign the increasingly robust investment climate in the country. "There is no proposal from any quarters to freeze foreign currency accounts in the country", he clarified. The spokesman said there was no question of debt sustainability in the country and the section of the press has carried baseless and unverified reports without quoting any source which again shows irresponsible reporting.
