National selectors would judge the fitness and form of batsman Muhammad Hafeez in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2016-17 matches, starting from October 1, 2016. Hafeez would represent SNGPL in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches. He held practice sessions after recovery recover from the calf muscle injury, sustained during the recent England tour. He was ruled out for the rest of England tour. He had undergone rehabilitation process at NCA.
Hafeez was already dropped from ODI series against West Indies in the UAE following his fitness concerns. However, selectors want to judge his fitness and form before selection for the three-Test match series against West Indies starting from next month in the UAE.
It may be noted that Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur has already made it clear that he will not tolerate unfit and under-performing players in the national squad following fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan's injury; after bowling five overs before leaving the field at Headingley in Leeds. Irfan was called into the squad as replacement for injured opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez, managed to claim two wickets in his spell in the fourth ODI against England before going off after complaining about cramps. He was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the tour.
