Admission in colleges: LHC suspends HED's conditional notification

04 Oct, 2016

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended a notification of the Higher Education Department (HED) that bars admission in intermediate after a gap of five years of passing the Matric exam. The court also directed the Faisalabad education board to entertain admission form of petitioner Muhammad Irfan for intermediate who passed his matriculation in 2011. The court sought a reply from the higher education department and the Faisalabad education board on October 18.
The petitioner through his counsel stated that he could not continue his education after matriculation due to financial constraints. However, he said, after a gap of six years, he applied for admission in first year at a government college in Faisalabad. He said the college management denied admission to the petitioner due to the policy of HED stating that admission will only be granted to only those students who had an academic gap not more than five years after passing the exam of matriculation. The lawyer argued that the impugned policy of the department was against the constitution and fundamental rights of the petitioner to get education.
