Forced closure of power supply continued for fourth consecutive day in the city on Tuesday which made the life of consumers miserable. Lahore Electric Supply Company sources said the duration of power outages has reached 16 hours a day in Kasur, Okara and Sheikhupura.
It may be noted that the country is yet facing a shortfall of 5,000MW, leading to frequent supply cuts across the country due to out-of-order power plants including Hubco Unit 4 (300MW), Liberty power (200MW), Engro (200MW), Muzaffargarh Unit 3 (180MW), Lakhra (30MW), Halmore (200MW) and Guddu (150MW). This situation has led to reduction in quota for the distribution companies.
The power consumers pointed out that continuity of humid weather has increased their difficulties manifold and it has become unbearable for them to deal with hours long load shedding. Meanwhile, the duration of power outages in rural areas reached 20 hours a day and the farmers are furious over short supply to their tube-wells, saying the government should ensure uninterrupted power supply to the agriculture sector.
