200 detained for violating pillion riding ban

Police detained at least 200 citizens for violating ban imposed on pillion riding as part of the security arrangements for the holy month of Muharram. According to police officials, more than 50 motorcycles were also taken into custody by the police.
The ban has been in effect since 6pm on Saturday and would continue till 11th of Muharram. Inspector General Sindh Police AD Khawaja instructed police officials to stay alert with regard to incidences of target killing. Security has also been tightened around Imambargahs and Muharram processions.
Police stated that the ban on pillion riding has been imposed keeping in mind the recent incidents of firing in the metropolis and maintenance of law and order in Karachi.
