President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Lahore district filed an application for impleadment as party to Orange Line Metro Train Project case, fixed for hearing on October 13. On August 19, 2016, the Lahore High Court stayed the construction work of Orange Line Metro Train in the 200-metre radius of 11 heritage sites, protected under the Punjab Special Premises (Preservation) Ordinance, 1985 and the Antiquity Act, 1975.
Granting leave to appeal of the Punjab Mass Transit Authority and others on September 26, the Supreme Court formed a five-member larger bench to examine the contours of the Lahore High Court verdict in the matter. Filing the application in the matter, Walid Iqbal, PTI Lahore district president requested the court to allow him to become party in the case on the grounds that his presence is necessary in aid of the meaningful protection of the rule of law given to the citizens under Article 4 of the Constitution.
