Security has beefed up ahead of Ashura here in provincial capital, as more than 12,000 police personnel have been deployed for protection of mourners' processions. The unprecedented security steps have been taken by deployment of police to keep check on entry of people at entry and exit points in Peshawar. The senior police officers also checked the security of the routes of processions as well as the alertness level of the cops at entry points especially those set up outside the main city areas.
Due to security concerns, the commercial and trade centres in Qissa Khwani, Kohati, Kochi Bazaar, Kabari Bazaar, Meena Bazaar, Peepal Mandi and adjoining areas will remain close on 9th and 10th Capital City Police Officer Mohammad Tahir and Senior Superintendent of Police (Operation) Abbas Majeed Marwat visited the Command and Control Centre in the inner city and supervised the overall security arrangements around the Imambargahs and Muharram processions. Apart from the police, the bomb disposal unit experts check the routes ahead of any procession. The cops are alert to fail any untoward incident.
