The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will start two weekly flights to Barcelona, Spain, from December 11, on every Sunday and Tuesday from Islamabad and Lahore, said Danyal Gilani, General Manager Public Relations PIA. This is a revival of the earlier arrangements and the PIA flight to Paris would be extended to Barcelona.
"Both the flights from Islamabad and Lahore would touch Paris before heading to Barcelona but there would be direct return to both destinations, which would benefit the Pakistani expats in Paris," he added. He further pointed out that the PIA is likely to resume operations to Germany in January 2017 soon with fleet expansion. "The fleet expansion will not only increase the airline's passenger carrying capacity, but will also facilitate those who have to regularly travel on long distance routes," he expressed the hope.
Gilani said the PIA has a fleet of 37 aircraft at present out of which four A310 would be retired soon. He said the PIA has decided to induct both narrow and wide body aircraft in its fleet and an advertisement has already released for narrow body aircraft on wet lease. It may be noted that the PIA is in the process of upgrading its image through various measures and its passengers have expressed joy over revival of Barcelona flights.
